On November 10, 2010, 200 book reviews were simultaneously posted on the internet to raise awareness about environmentally-conscious publishing practices.  We were one amongst the throng who participated and supported this terrific event by providing a book to review.

Tightrope is participating in Eco-Libris’ Green Books Campaign, which features a simultaneous publication of 200 book reviews by 200 bloggers of books that have been published using green methods.  The “event” is meant to raise awareness about the book business’ impact on the environment, and to promote sustainable eco-policies.

Other participating publishers include, among others: Penguin  Group, Scholastic, Barefoot Books, McClelland & Stewart, Simon and Schuster Children’s Publishing, Sterling Publishing, DK Publishing, Harvard Business Press, Island Press, North Atlantic Books, McGraw-Hill, ABRAMS and Picador.  Possibly the greatest coup that Eco-Libris has gained is the support of Indigo Books & Music, the largest book retailer in Canada.  The cooperation between publishers, retailers, and reviewers suggests an earnest dialogue between the publishing factions towards new, environmentally-conscious business practices.  Meg the intern’s question, however, is how heavy the consumer weighs in on making a real change.
