The Montreal-based artist and filmmaker, David Latreille, created a video inspired by Phoebe Tsang’s poem, “Recurring Highway Incident,” from her collection of poetry, Contents of a Mermaid’s Purse.  The video features Latreille re-inventing an Absolut Vodka bottle into a work of art by following the poem’s theme of repetition and inscribing it in and around the object.

Cha: An Asian Literary Journal reviews Contents of a Mermaids Purse

Reid Mitchell reviews Phoebe Tsang’s Contents of a Mermaids Purse on Cha: An Asian Literary Journal.

“In her marvelous new collection, Contents of a Mermaid’s Purse, Phoebe Tsang, a claimant to both Asian and Western literary traditions, also portrays a world infused with magical transformation—and, following Pu Songling and Ovid alike, suggests that love and lust in their many forms remain the usual source for metamorphosis.”
