Tightrope’s Danila Botha was featured in the National Post article, “What Africa is All About.” In the article, Danila discusses the media attention South Africa has received in popular, North American culture in recent months. She also addresses the criticism South Africa, and the iconic plastic horn, the vuvuzela have received during this year’s World Cup.
She writes, “Coaches, commentators, and even players complained. For his part, FIFA President Sepp Blatter responded, ‘we should not try to Europeanise an African World Cup … that is what African and South African football is all about- – noise, excitement, dancing, shouting and enjoyment’ I entirely agree”

Danila’s experiences growing up in South Africa and her volunteer work for organizations Na-me-res and Ve’ahavta inspired many of the stories in her short story collection Got No Secrets published this May by Tightrope Books.

Danila will be reading from her collection in Halifax tomorrow, July 6th at 7:00 p.m. at The Company House 2202 Gottingen.
