Wintery weather, an Olympic hockey game and, in the case of Fredericton, a classical music concert next store, couldn’t put on damper on our February 25th “Best Canadian” launches in Montreal and New Brunswick.

The Atlantic launch of The Best Canadian Poetry in English, 2009 was held at UNB and featured readings by BCP contributor and host Jesse Ferguson, plus Best Canadian poets M. Travis Lane, Peter Norman, Richard Lemm, Anne Compton and Shirley Bear (all pictured).

Drawn and Quarterly Bookstore was the friendly location for the joint Best Canadian Poetry, Best Canadian Essays and Cabin Fever (Best New Canadian Non-Fiction, Thomas Allen) launch. The night was hosted by Best Canadian Essays editor and Best Canadian Poetry contributor, Carmine Starnino. The packed house was treated to readings by Best Canadian Poets Anita Lahey (who is also in Best Canadian Essays), Cora Sire, Asa Boxer, Robyn Sarah, as well as by Cabin Fever contributors Deborah Ostrovsky and Taras Grescoe.
