The Best Canadian Short Stories 2011 will be the newest addition to Tightrope Books’ annual Best Of series. It will join The Best Canadian Poetry in English and The Best Canadian Essays. The second edition of The Best Canadian Poetry, with series editor Molly Peacock and guest editor, Griffin Poetry Prize winner, A.F. Moritz, will launch this fall. There will also be three events in New York this October to celebrate the 2008 edition, which was guest edited by Stephanie Bolster. The Best Canadian Essays 2009, edited by Alex Boyd and Carmine Starnino, will launch its inaugural edition this fall.
Tightrope Books is considering various well-known and accomplished Canadian fiction writers to be the first guest editor of The Best Canadian Short Stories. This anthology, inspired by its American counterpart, The Best American Short Stories, will be an annual showcase of the country’s best short fiction and play a key role in contributing to the Canadian literary climate and culture. It will also be an integral vehicle for giving new writers a voice and not yet widely recognized writers a conduit to a broader audience. These will be the twenty-five must-read stories of every year.
Just in time for summer 2011, the first edition of an annual anthology, The Best Canadian Short Stories will make a great beach or lakeside read from the Pacific to the Atlantic.
